What Are Gems?
Gems are an alternative currency within Banqer High Junior, designed for teacher rewards and exclusive use in the Class Store. They are not a replacement for Banqer Dollars, which students earn through other activities.
Ways Students Can Earn Gems:
Teacher Rewards: Award Gems directly to students - some of our teachers will use the Gems as a way to encourage good behaviour in their class, rewarding things such as being early to class, handing in homework early, or generally great work with Gems.
Credit Card Use: Earn Gems for spending with specific credit cards.
Budgeting: Receive Gems for successfully locking in a weekly budget.
Quizzes: Score 100% on a quiz to earn Gems.
Rewarding your students with Gems
To reward your students with gems, navigate to the Pay Students option in your Teacher Tools menu on the left hand side menu.
You will see the Make a gem payment box.
Type in a reference for your gem payment, and then the amount of gems.
You can then choose whether to pay all students, or select individual students.
For a visual step through, please see the guide below:
Introducing the Class Store
Once your students have some gems, they can spend them in the Class Store. The Class Store offers students a variety of items they can purchase using Gems, such as background colors or avatar customizations.
As a teacher, you can also customize the store by adding your own items, like:
- A homework pass.
- Early pack-up time.
- Other creative privileges tailored to your classroom!
Note: the Class Store is only available once you have enabled the Credit and Debit expansion. See below for a step-by-step on how to navigate to your Class Store, and add custom items to it.
Removing Items
As a teacher you can also remove certain items, see guide below on how to remove items/make them appear as out of stock.
Managing Student Purchases
When a student purchases an item, it will appear in their My Stuff area.
- To use an item, students simply click Claim.
- You’ll receive a notification when a custom item is claimed, helping you track fulfillment.
Lesson Plan: Introducing the Class Store
Use our dedicated lesson plan to introduce the Class Store to your students. It covers:
- Online shopping habits.
- Charitable giving.
- Saving practices.
- The influence of marketing on consumer behavior.
This can be a really helpful additional topic to cover with your students if you have time within your schedule, covering some of the key areas around spending and what to be mindful of. Your Lesson Plan and other helpful resources can be found within the Pay Students tab, accessible from your Teacher Tools area.
